Hello everyone. I am Rosa Doran. I am a science educator with a previous life in High Energy and Gravitation, in particular studying Black Holes :-), my passion. But life brought me to the realm of Science Education and nowadays I devote my live EMPOWERING EDUCATORS across the world. I had already the privilege of visiting over 50 countries and have friends in over 100 countries. Our efforts already reached over 60 000 teachers at a global level. My dream is to find more and more schools where STEAM education is the current practice, where educators work together in modern environments and students are “re-discovering” the world with their creativity, critical thinking and desire to become change makers of their generation.

Pleasure to be here Scott. It is very interesting to see how COSPAR-K is handling the online encounters. Do you expect to have a lot of international interest in this discussions from now on? Will educators from around the world be able to interact and participate in the already planned events. It is sad that we cant be all together in Australia but on the other hand, it is a great opportunity for global conversations.

Hello all!
I think it is so important to have this thread as part of the larger conversation. I currently serve as IB Career-related Programme Coordinator at a large international school in South Korea. I also teach ‘design’ education to students aged 12-18. I am very excited to engage with anyone wanting to discuss STEM education internationally. In fact, this topic comes up regularly on my podcast about this very topic: Design Cast Podcast. I look forward to interacting soon!

Wow. Design education to students. Can you tell us a bit more about your work with them. What is it exactly that you develop with them? Also tells a bit more about your podcast.

For the most part I teach an age-appropriate Design & Technology or Technology & Engineering course. We have a framework that follow from the IBO. It does give us complete freedom as to the skills and content, but there are ‘criteria’ that we must use to deliver the classes.
My podcast is all about Design and STEM/STEAM education around the world. There are 55 episodes so far and I would love to have some feedback!

I’m an IB trained teacher also. I will check out your Design Podcast. Can you send me the link? I am also hosting the STEM vs STEAM and the Power of Design Thinking forums. Come say hi!
Kind regards, Kylie

Greetings Rosa,
I had great success bringing my innovation to a global audience when encountering resistance in Australia. Having a global perspective is critical.

Thanks Rosa,
Apart from my teaching, I am working with a number of Olympic teams preparing for Tokyo.
With less than 100 days, more teams trialling my design with ‘test’ athletes.
Just last night the winner of the Dutch National Championships used my design, so we are continuing to see an international uptake of my design.

I would like to ask all the visitor to tell me what in your opinion is STEM education and if you are an advocate for STEAM education, with the arts included. Since I am an astronomer I would like to know if anyone has experience with STEAM for Astronomy 🙂

Hi Rosa,
We created a great interactive astronomy STEAM ‘Paint the Sky’ project for COSPAR-K. Corey Tutt (Keynote here) contributed. Feel free to request the online resources from myself or Dr Scott Sleap. Teachers and students loved it.
Kind regards, Kylie
